Sedgley Park Rugby Union Club held their first ever mini Section Players’ Dinner earlier this month.
The event, held at the clubhouse on Park Lane, Whitefield, saw boys and girls from under-7s to under-12s enjoy a fun evening of entertainment.
Awards were presented to the longest-serving players on a night which included a rugby quiz, entertainment from a table magician and words from motivational speakers.
At the end of the evening, all players went on to the first team’s pitch for a balloon race, and under-8s manager Colette Stevens, who helped to organise the event with other team managers, was delighted with the resounding success of the presentation.
“The evening was designed to create a fun, social occasion for the players and parents of the section. At the same time, we wanted to bring all the mini teams together to raise their profile within the club.
“All the players were given a new club tie to wear on the evening, donated by our Claret and Gold Association which is made up of ex-Sedgley Park players. It was a great success and we hope to make this an annual event.
“Our thanks go to everyone at the club who helped and to all our sponsors for their contributions.”
The mini teams train on Wednesday evenings and play matches on Sunday mornings, with all coaches having a minimum of the RFU Level One Coaching qualification. The club are seeking new players and anyone interested should visit www.sedgleytigers.com or contact Tony Stevens on 07776 146401.
