DAVE McNabb is delighted to sign ‘leader’ Macauley Wilson - Bury’s twelfth signing of the summer.

The experienced defender has joined from Northern Premier League Premier Division side Bamber Bridge to link up with the Shakers ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

The 26-year-old former Brig captain could now forge a new-look central defensive partnership with ex-Celtic defender Efe Ambrose who joined the Gigg Lane club last week.

The former Manchester United and Blackpool youth prospect took to social media once he was unveiled as a Shakers player.

“Proud to be part of this club, heard incredible things about the atmosphere at Gigg Lane,” he said. “I can’t wait to play in front of all of you, let’s go!”

McNabb, who has been busy rebuilding his squad after missing out on promotion following a play-off final defeat, believes he has brought in a player with a ‘winning mentality’.

“Macauley is a top quality centre half,” he told the club website. “Strong, aggressive and fantastical defensively. Very comfortable on the ball with the capability to build the game and play forward passes to help start attacks.

“Macca has a lot of experience, he’s a leader on the pitch and an excellent communicator. The way he reads the game is exceptional and his winning mentality is infectious.”

As well as Wilson and Ambrose, Bury have also signed Lewis Earl, Bryan Ly, Rustam Stepans, Bobby Carroll, Morgan Homson-Smith, Bebeto Gomes, Will Calligan, Tom Stewart, Iyrwah Gooden and Ruben Jerome.

Andy Briggs has also committed to the Shakers for the forthcoming campaign while Charlie Doyle and Dec Daniels are departing Gigg Lane.
