The return of ex-Borough ace Jody Banim helped Radcliffe earn a replay in Saturday’s second qualifying round of the FA Cup.
The new arrival showed flashes of the skills that have made him a legend among Boro fans and hopefully he will get back in the goals when his match fitness improves.
The first half saw both sides resort to direct long balls which yielded few goalscoring chances until Steve Howson broke the deadlock in the 39th minute. The striker chipped in from 18 yards after being cleverly put through by Eddie Stanford.
The only other real opportunities were generally from set plays as both sides won free kicks in dangerous positions but failed to register a shot on target on any of these occasions.
Warrington could have levelled the tie 10 minutes after half time as Tony Evans was able to convert from close range but was adjuged to have fouled a Boro defender in the lead up to the goal.
The home side continued to push forward and the pressure told on the hour mark when Lee Unsworth’s handball led to the award of a penalty, which was confidently dispatched by Warrington winger Chris Gahgan.
Tuesday’s replay meant the postponement of a league trip to Skelmersdale and makes it a week of cup ties with Mickleover Sports arriving on Saturday in the FA Trophy.
“The late penalty was unfortunate but we have to put it behind us,” said director of football Gerry Luczka.
