Boro halted their recent run of poor results with an important but largely undeserved win in a match that saw them dominated by the visiting side.
Radcliffe were forced into reorganising their formation to a 3-5-2 after the recent departure of Owen Roberts left the squad without a recognised left back. This disruption appeared to have a major impact as throughout the game Boro’s players seemed confused about the roles they had been given which allowed Woodley to dominate the large periods.
Despite this Radcliffe were able to take the lead in the seventh minute after Steve Howson nodded home an Eddie Stanford free-kick from 10 yards.
After the goal, Boro appeared to rest on their laurels which let Woodley boss the game by granting them a worrying amount of possession in dangerous areas.
The second half saw Boro again on the back foot but, as the visitors seemed unable to convert their possession into goalscoring chances, Howson edged the home side further ahead after his skewed shot from six yards rolled over the line in the 57th minute to put Radcliffe further ahead.
It looked as if Woodley would be able to earn at least a draw after Michael Clarke’s 74th-minute header beat Boro’s on-loan keeper Lloyd Rigby but Radcliffe dug in and were able to hold firm until the close.
