EDDIE Stanford’s late winner from the spot booked Boro a place in the next round of the FA Cup.
In a mediocre first half, neither side were able to set pulses racing despite the financial rewards on offer to the side claiming the spoils.
The main chance before the break occured in the fourth minute when Boro's Steve Howson saw his dipping shot from the edge of the area shave the outside of the post.
While Boro had a clear edge in terms of shots at goal they were unable to force the Woodley keeper into making a save as all but the Howson effort were way off target.
The game came to life in the second half as both teams enjoyed extended spells of pressure.
Boro’s bright start created an opening for Mark Drew, who was unlucky to see his goalbound effort from 10 yards hit a team-mate before it was deflected wide.
Woodley slipped into gear on the hour as they created two clear goalscoring opportunites.
The first of these fell to Danny Queely who saw his close range header clip the crossbar and this was closely followed by Gavin Salmon who blazed over from six yards when he really should have found the back of the net.
However, it will be the Radcliffe side drawn out of the hat in the next round thanks to Eddie Stanford’s conversion of an 84th minute penalty which was awarded when Howson was hauled down by Liam Hogan after he caught the Woodley defence flat-footed.
The red card shown to the Woodley player as a result of this incident was the last item of note in a game that was more important to Boro in terms of their confidence and finances than the actual performance itself.
