Walshaw’S slender Manchester League Premier Division title aspirations all but vanished in the sunshine at Springhead.

On a poor playing surface it was a match that was never going to suit Walshaw’s passing game, but in the early stages they took the game to the home side pressing them back.

A hopeful punt forward was controlled by Bennet for Springhead who was afforded far too much space and he fired low and hard across Marsh to give the home side the lead in the 20th minute.

Walshaw were level 10 minutes later when Lee Chapman bundled the ball home from close range. Springhead regained the lead when slack marking again gave the home side the chance to take the lead. Walshaw were reduced to 10 men when goalkeeper Marsh was sent off for deliberate handball.

Walshaw camped out in the visitors half and had five late chances but found the home keeper in inspired form.

Walshaw travel to Atherton on Saturday, kick off 2pm.

A date has now been set for the prestigious Gilchryst trophy final against Hollinwood. The game is on May 5, at Hyde United ko 7pm. Coach places are available. Contact the club on 01204 882448.
