BURY Grammar School Old Boys enjoyed the best result of the weekend with a 4-0 win at Lancashire Amateur League Premier Division neighbours Radcliffe Town.

The Old Boys went into the match looking for their first-back-to-back win of the campaign while struggling Radcliffe were yet to win.

Bury took the lead on 20 minutes with Adam Hudson finding the net from close range after Will Purser’s corner had created mayhem in the Radcliffe defence.

It was not long before they went 2-0 up, Spencer Woods grabbing the goal and it got even better for the visitors when Purser drove the ball home from 20 yards just before the interval.

The Old Boys continued to dominate in the second period and Andy Deakin came off the bench to complete the scoring with a fine strike from inside the penalty area.

Meanwhile, BGSOB second team went down 4-3 at home to Oldham Hulmeians.

Bury travel to Old Blackburnians on Saturday.

Hosts Elton Vale came seriously unstuck against Atherton Town in the Manchester League Premier Division, losing by a 3-0 margin.

Mark Pollard was off target in the third minute and Jason Brooks also shot wide early on before Samir Patel rattled the underside of the Atherton crossbar.

But it was Atherton who took the lead on the half hour with a corner that evaded everyone but the unmarked Parry at the back post.

Atherton finished the stronger and a far-post goal by Shaw sealed the result for the visitors before Heapy’s 25-yarder compounded the Elton misery. Elton’s reserves drew 1-1 at Rochdale Sacred Heart courtesy of Dave Berry’s fine strike from a Daz Jackson cross.

Both teams play Leigh Athletic on Saturday, the first string at home for the sixth consecutive week, both games kicking off at 2pm.

Meanwhile, Walshaw returned to the top of the Premier League after a 2-2 home draw against lowly Chapel Town. But their management were far from impressed with their failure to bag all three points.

Walshaw took the lead on 38 minutes when Sharples set up Lee Gaskell who finished well.

Walshaw’s Waltham then conceded a penalty and Chapel Town were level at the break.

The hosts gained the upper hand again and Winstanley won a penalty which Keegan converted.

But they threw away the initiative and more slack marking allowed Chapel to level.

Walshaw entertain Springhead on Saturday, kick off 2pm.

Bury Amateurs — who have a 100 per cent record in the Manchester League Division One — exited the Lancashire Shield with a disappointing 3-0 defeat at Dalton United of the West Lancashire Premier League.

The surface at Barrow was not to the Ammies liking and the hosts took the lead on 15 minutes with a headed goal thanks to some poor marking.

The bigger and stronger Dalton side were a constant threat and they doubled their advantage on the hour with a penalty conceded by Steve Kennedy.

It was no surprise, with Bury commiting men forward in search of a consolation, that Dalton increased their lead with another penalty.

Bury return to league duty at Cams Lane against Salford on Saturday.
