Walshaw Sports enjoyed a thumping 5-0 win in the Manchester League Premier Division derby against an injury-ravaged Prestwich Heys at Sycamore Road.
Their progressive 4-3-3 formation reaped dividends in the first half with goals from Craig Duerden, Russ Brierley and Ben Sharples.
Other chances came and went with Heys in dissaray.
Walshaw put the game to bed midway through the second half with two spectacular finishes from Lee Gaskell — his first league goals for the club.
Walshaw entertain Chapel Town on Saturday, kick off 2pm.
Meanwhile, the reserves also beat Heys at Sandgate Road with the winning goal coming from veteran Lee Irvine.
It was less of an enjoyable afternoon for Walshaw’s local rivals Elton Vale who were beaten 2-1 at home by league leaders Wythenshawe Amateurs.
Elton put in a gutsy first-half display and took a deserved lead on 25 minutes when Dave Wilkes converted a Pendlebury corner under no challenge from the static Wythenshawe defence.
The visitors levelled, however, thanks to a dubious free kick converted by Carpenter from the corner of the Vale penalty area which took a wicked deflection off the wall and looped over goalkeeper Phil Kenyon.
And the Manchester side got their noses in front when a long clearance became a race for the ball between Samir Patel of Elton and Walker of the Ammies, which the striker won before squeezing his shot past Kenyon.
Although Wilkes was dismissed following a second yellow card, Elton pressed manfully for an equaliser, but to no avail.
Vale Reserves lost their game against Manchester Gregorians 3-1, with Tom Stubbs getting their solitary goal.
The first team entertain Atherton Town on Saturday while the reserves travel to Rochdale Sacred Heart, both matches kick off at 2pm.
Bury Amatuers stayed top of the First Division of the Manchester League, but showed signs of complacency in their 3-2 win at Fives Athletic.
Lee Bruce put the Ammies ahead after 15 minutes and 10 minutes later Tino Blake was on hand to force Naz Haydr’s shot, which had cannoned off the underside of the bar, over the line to make it 2-0.
Bury then went into their shell and a long clearance caught their defence square and the Walkden men took advantage to make it 2-1.
Bury restored their two-goal advantage within five minutes of the restart when substitute Baboucar Njie scrambled home from a corner.
And they should have gone on to make the game comfortable, but, once again, they switched off and, with 20 minutes remaining, Fives were awarded a penalty following a Rich Young challenge and made it 3-2.
Bury then had to withstand some late pressure to see the game out and collect the points.
Bury Grammar School Old Boys progressed to the third round of the Lancashire Amateur Cup at Leyland Red Rose with a 4-2 win.
All the goals came in the second half with a sweet Adam Al Attar volley from 20 yards opening the scoring for the Old Boys.
Leyland soon equalised, but goals from Alex Lundy and Derek Aljoe put Bury in the driving seat.
The Lancashire men pulled one back to put some pressure on Bury, but the win was sealed when Aljoe went in bravely with the Leyland keeper to score the fourth.
The Old Boys entertain Radcliffe Town on Saturday.
