BURY Amateurs’ 100 per cent record in the Manchester League’s First Division continued with a 2-1 win at Cams Lane at the expense of Wythenshawe Town.
The Ammies, who beat Town 6-1 in the reverse fixture on the opening day of the season, went behind after just 45 seconds when a long punt by the goalkeeper caused indecision between Andy Kennedy and Vinny Bentham, allowing the centre forward to stroke the ball into an empty net.
Bury were given a reprieve on 25 minutes when a fracas in the middle of the pitch saw Wythenshawe’s imposing central midfielder sent off for what appeared to be an innocuous offence.
It served to heighten the Ammies hunger to attack and they equalised through Maplesden, who rose above everyone to not home a Blake corner.
The 10-man visitors made it as difficult as they could for Bury who were rewarded for their patience when Carinci crossed for Hickford to get the final touch as the ball crossed the line.
Premier League side Walshaw had their title aspirations dented by a 2-0 home defeat to Gregorians in a game which was ultimately decided by a contentious refereeing decision.
The opening stages saw Gregs adopt a physical approach and although Walshaw were awarded numerous free kicks they could not make their superiority count.
Parkinson was dismissed on the hour — to the amazement of both sets of players — after commiting only his second foul of the game.
This gave the momentum back to Gregs who scored two goals in the final quarter against 10 men.
The reserves had a good win at Old Alts with Josh Taylor scoring both goals.
Walshaw have a local Derby this Saturday when Prestwich Heys are the visitors to Sycamore Road, 2pm kick off.
Meanwhile, Elton Vale’s 1-1 Premier League draw at home to East Manchester was a match that would have had the BBC’s Match of the Day pundit Alan Hansen purring — with the more defensive aspects on show rather than the attacking skills of either side Elton went behind on 55 minutes as one effort was cleared off the line but the East centre back was allowed to climb unchallenged and loop a header from 15 yards over the ruck of players into the net.
Vale were back on terms within five minutes as Zak Galbraith’s free kick eluded everyone to reach Ross Buckley at the the back post and his right foot shot evaded the diving keeper.
Vale’s reserves travelled to unbeaten Wythenshawe and impressed with a convincing 3-0 win thanks to a penalty from Tom Stubbs and goals from Dave Berry and Ryan Standring This week’s first team fixture with Premier League leaders Wythenshawe Ams has been reverted back to Elton Vale Road (2pm) and the reserves travel again to Manchester Gregorians at Platt Lane (2.30pm).
Duck Club FC from Bury played their first home game on Sunday in the lFA Trophy at Huntley Mount Road. After promotion last season Duck Club took a while to get into the game. After a good team talk at half-time they came out for the second half a better team, more organised, and quality passing from defence, through midfield, and the attack finished well with a 5-2 victory.
