PETER Gilmour has accepted the position of honorary club patron at Prestwich Heys.
Gilmour played more than 500 games and then managed the team in the late 1960's when Heys blazed a trail of glory, both locally and nationally in the FA Amateur Cup.
Gilmour said "I am pleased to accept this position because Prestwich Heys has meant so much to me.
"I have, without reservation accepted the honorary patron invitation and I do hope I will in the future see many games to come."
Meanwhile, after two weeks of training, Heys step up their preparations for the new season on Saturday as they start their pre-season campaign at Denton Town.
Denton compete in the Cheshire League and will give a good early test for Heys players under the watchful eye of joint managers Jon Lyons and Ryan Hutchinson.
Heys then face a trip to West Lancashire League Tempest United next Tuesday.
