RADCLIFFE CC produced their second 10-0 victory in succession against bottom side Seedfield A to reduce Ramsbottom A’s lead at the top of Division One of the Bury Table Tennis League to just one point, although Rammy still have a match in hand.
Burning Desire managed a good 5-5 draw at Prestwich A despite three wins from Nathan Buckley. The only other result saw Little Lever record a 6-4 win over Prestwich C with Gabriel Wilding securing three wins for Prestwich.
The top team in Division Two, Coburg, were held to a 5-5 draw at Carlton Club B, while in the battle to avoid relegation, Seedfield B are now three points ahead of Elton Vale following their 6-4 victory over the fellow strugglers.
Prestwich F defeated bottom club Carlton C 8-2 with three wins from Ken Crimes, while Stuart Landes recorded three wins in Maccabi’s 7-3 victory to dent ELPM A’s promotion hopes.
In Division Three, Seedfield's 8-2 victory over GSOB kept up the pressure on Midges and although they are now seven points clear at the top, Midges do have two matches in hand.
Phil Wardle moved to the top of the averages after his three wins for Holmar A in their 6-4 victory against Carlton Vale. Wardle's performance was even more impressive with the three wins coming against third and fourth positioned players in the averages.
Three wins for Terry Shaw enabled Shawfield B to beat Prestwich G 7-3. In a mid-table clash ELPM B beat Maccabi D 8-2 with three wins from both Steve Greaves and Carol Mitchell.
With leaders Seedfield not playing this week in Division Four the focus was on the second promotion place. Just five points separate four teams - Shawfield C, Holmar C, ELPM C and Maccabi F - and incredibly all four won their matches 7-3 this week. The star performers were Wayne Ellis, John Heyes and Debbie Wilson who all recorded maximums, while Barry Collier won three matches for losers Shawfield D.
Seedfield E are now favourites to clinch the Division Five championship after their 10-0 victory extended their lead at the top to 12 points, although BSGOB still have a match in hand.
Only three matches remain in this division before the league splits into the top five teams and bottom five teams. Anthony Vindice’s three wins for ELPM D enabled them to achieve a 5-5 draw against Seedfield F. In the other match, Shawfield F beat Holmar D 9-1.
