Radcliffe Central B are the early leaders of C Section in the Bury and District Open League after a close win at newcomers Walmersley Con. Victories for C Nicholson (95-55) and A Eckersley (109-49) built the platform for a 6-3 success.
Huntley B beat visitors Bury Bridge 5-3 with all the frames closely contested, but took the aggregate by five chalks.
Another close game took place between local rivals Tottington A and Walshaw. D Nicholson starred for the Totty with a fine 102-64 win with his side prevailing 5-3.
It was the same scoreline when St Mary’s beat Seedfield B. J Garvey rolled back the years with an excellent 70-32 win.
Tottington B took the spoils from Whitefield BC, winning the match 6-3. This meant that all the teams in the C Section took three frames each in their respective matches.
In A Section, Bury Snooker D retained top position despite going down 5-3 to Elton Lib B.
P Walsh got the home side off to a flyer 92-36 and went on to win four frames. However, skipper S Amin won by enough to ensure the aggregate scores were drawn to share a point each.
Salisbury chalked up their first win in the A section with an excellent 7-1 victory at home to Fishpool. J Morrison showed his class (84-27) to set Salisbury on their way.
Keeping up with the Joneses proved too difficult for Whitefield B as Bury Snooker B won 6-2 courtesy of wins from P Jones, who scored a century, after M Jones sent them on their way. Radcliffe Central A beat Elton Lib A 6-2 with D Tiddy winning 91-49 for the home side.
In B Section, Seedfield A beat Radcliffe Central 6-2. The biggest win was M Turta with a fine 71-14 success. Radcliffe Central C edged Elton Lib C 5-3 in a series of tight frames. Central took the aggregate by nine chalks.
D Harrison (113-43) and A Catlow (89-55) got Huntley C off to a flyer at Whitefield A. But the home side showed their determination, taking the next four frames and the match 6-2 with K Henderson and L Smith making big contributions. Bury Snooker C beat Stanley. M Heaton put the hosts in front with an opening frame 51-11 success in a comfortable 6-2 win.
