RADCLIFFE Central A go into the final round of fixtures with a one point lead at the top of the Bolton and District Open Snooker League A Section after a 9-0 win at Whitefield B.
The stunning result ended fourth-placed Whitefield’s title hopes and kept Radcliffe ahead of second-placed Tottington D, who enjoyed an impressive 8-1 victory at Buchanans A.
Third-placed Fishpool also won – 6-2 at home to Bury Snooker D – but their title challenge is now over.
At the wrong end, Elton Lib D’s victory over the club’s A team was not enough to stave off relegation. But a vital win for Elton Lib C against the club’s B team keeps their hopes of avoiding the drop alive. They trail third bottom Elton Lib B by six points.
In the B Section, Bury Snooker B secured promotion with a 5-3 win at home to second-placed Salisbury B, but they will have to wait until the final week to see if they will be crowned champions.
Salisbury B, who trail by six points, can still pip Bury Snooker B to the title, but if they lose they could miss out on promotion, with third-placed Huntley just six points behind.
At the other end of the table, the relegation places were confirmed, with Tottington A returning to the C Section after two years in the middle division. They will be joined by Stanley.
Any two teams from five are able to clinch promotion from the C Section. League leaders Radcliffe Central C visit second-placed Huntley C, with the winner set to be crowned champions.
If either of those teams lose heavily then Whitefield A, Walshaw or Radcliffe Central B could claim the second promotion spot.
