RADCLIFFE Central A blew the Bury League Irwell Street Metals A Section wide open with an unprecedented 8-0 win over title favourites Fishpool.
The result was all the more impressive considering the form of Fishpool’s Simon Fitzsimmons, who notched a 47 break during his defeat.
Whitefield B kept pace with new leaders Tottington D, beating Buchanans A 7-1.
At the other end of the table, second-bottom Elton Lib C enjoyed a crucial 7-1 win over club rivals Elton Lib A, with four breaks of more than 25 in what was a high quality match.
In the Cornucopia Cards and Gifts B Section, leaders Bury Snooker B suffered a rare defeat against Salisbury A, with John Slymon putting in a fantastic performance for the victors, winning his frame by 79 points.
Salisbury B did their hopes of claiming second the world of good with a fine 7-2 win at promotion rivals Huntley A, who are now five points behind in third.
In the Bury Minibus Hire C Section, the season is turning into the Radcliffe Central show. The C team took top spot with a 5-3 win at home to Whitefield Bowling club, while the B team moved into second with a fine 7-2 win at Tottington B.
They stretched their lead over promotion rivals Walshaw, who remain in fourth after suffering at home to Bury Bridge, and Whitefield A, who were betean by fifth-placed Huntley C. Huntley’s Daz Harrison, Paul Anderson and Chris Berry were the star performers.
The next delegates’ meeting will be held tonight at Bury Bridge WMC. All clubs must attend, as the final handicap books of the season will be issued.
n Only players who have played at least five league matches during the current season can feature in the last five matches of the season, unless permission is sought from the secretary before the match. Any player who is selected will have their score scratched and replaced 75-0.
