In the A section of the Bury Snooker League, Elton Lib B moved to the top of the table with their sixth win in a row after a 7-1 win at home to Radcliffe Central C.
Elton’s Sean Swimby continued his recent good form winning his frame 96-44 as Elton cruised to victory.
Tottington D remain favourites for the title as they have the same number of points and a game in hand. They were pushed all the way this week by Elton Lib C, but John Hancock’s opening frame 76-36 proved too much to pull back as Tottington ran out 5-3 winners.
Fishpool knew they needed a good run to get in title contention as they faced Buchanan’s A. Buchanan’s Mick Holleran took his frame 111-64 but it turned out to be their sole success with Fishpool’s Ashley Spencer producing his best frame of the season and Dave Kay taking the final frame with a 42 break as Fishpool ran out 7-1 winners. In the final match, Huntley A hosted Elton Lib A and thanks to Andy Catlow’s 85-32 frame ran out 5-3 winners.
In the B section, Huntley C did their title chances no harm after beating Bury Snooker C.
Chasing them hard are Elton Lib D as they recorded a 6-2 success at home to Seedfield A. Third-placed Central E will still have high hopes as they just got the better of Salisbury.
The two bottom teams played each other as St Mary’s hosted Central B. Colin Collard got St Mary’s off to a flyer taking his frame 70-17, and when St Mary’s John Farrington took the fifth 78-18 it look all over with St Mary’s leading by 75. In the end it proved just enough as Central B’s Chris Nicholson recorded an excellent final frame 100-29 as St Mary’s just edged it 5-3. In the C section it is all change at the top as third-placed Buchanans A surged to the top after beating previous table toppers Walshaw B with a resounding 8-0 home win.
Second-placed Walmersley failed to capitalise as they were beaten by bottom of the league Whitefield BC.
There is a delegates meeting tonight at Bury Bridge WMC 8pm.
The inter-league team made it two wins out of two with a thumping 7-0 victory against Wythenshawe B to secure their passage to the next phase of the inter-league competition with one game to go.
