IT is groundhog day in the A section as last season’s early pacesetters, and eventual champions, Tottington Con D top the table after beating Bury Snooker D 5-3.
The match was all but over after the first two frames as Jon Hancock (75-16) and Ian Martin (114-21) put Tottington into a commanding lead and it is to Bury’s credit that they dragged themselves back into the game until Phil Heaton took the last for Tottington.
Bury Snooker B are second after beating Central C 6-2. Tony Baker produced the standout performance, taking his frame 75-36.
Fishpool continued their good start to the season as they won 6-2 at home to Central A.
Simon Fitzsimmons had top billing, taking his frame 102-77 including a break of 39.
Elton Lib B hosted their A team and it was the visitors who took the first two and built a commanding lead of 99 thanks to Steve Anderson’s 124-75 win.
The B team fought back and Dave Toth did his best, taking the last for the B team (92-42) but they just fell short as the A team took the match 6-3.
Huntley A’s 6-2 win at home to Buchanans A featured the frame of the week. Dean Alston took it on a re-spotted black after both he and opponent Darren McHugh hit breaks of 38.
In the B section, Central E are making themselves comfortable at their new home and won against Elton Lib D 7-1.
Most of the frames were tight with a standout performance from Central’s Joe Lorenzo who took his frame 81-15.
B section newcomers Central B hosted Huntley C in a tight match that came down to the last two frames.
Central’s Andy Eckersley showed glimpses of last season’s fine form when he took the fifth 98-57.
It was not enough, though, as Paul Gill took the last for Huntley (86-56) to take the aggregate by four chalks and the match 6-3.
Seedfield BC A suffered a bolt from the Holt as Central D’s Jonny Holt hit breaks of 36 and 25 (unf) to take his frame 98-25 and edge the match 6-2 in Central’s favour.
There were also wins for Salisbury Con and Stanley Con.
