FISHPOOL got their Bury Snooker League A Section campaign off to a fine start after seeing off the threat of relegation last season.
The notched a fine win at Huntley A, thanks largely to Sam Thompson who got the visitors off to a fine start with a 72-38 frame win.
That set the platform for Ashley Spencer to finish the job in the last with a 96-30 success as Fishpool recorded an 8-1 victory.
The two promoted teams clashed on the opening day and it was last year’s B Section runners-up, Radcliffe Central C, who ended up defeating Elton Lib C 7-2 with good performances from Pete Rathor and Less Eckersley. Last year’s champions Tottington Con D got this year’s title defence off to a good start when they beat Elton Lib A at home 6-2 with Oliver Barlow producing the biggest win of the night (76-21). Elton Lib B hosted Radcliffe Central A in a closely contested match. Frank Molineux took the third for Elton, 56-13, while in the final frame Danny Tiddy won 93-46. But he was unable to get Radcliffe over the line as Elton took it 5-3.
