RADCLIFFE Central B have been crowned Bury and District Open Snooker League C Section champions, despite a final-day defeat at Seedfield B.
It turned out to be a good night for both teams as the 7-2 victory for the hosts was enough for Seedfield to win the Last Five competion.
Radcliffe’s Andy Eckersley and Seedfield’s Bryce Crux had a shootout for most frame wins in the section with Eckersley just coming out on top.
Tottington A hosted Radcliffe St Mary’s and home player Andy Elland enjoyed a 94-31 success as his side secured a 5-3 win. Their three points was enough, however, to second place for St Mary’s.
Walmersley finished third after seeing off fellow- contenders Tottington B 6-2 with both James Higgins and Derek Hutchinson racking up 100 points plus in their frames. Whitefield BC finished the season with a fine home victory 6-2 against Bury Bridge, with Vince Crowe having a good win in the third frame.
Walshaw took the spoils 7-2 at Huntley B with Walshaw’s Paul Davis having notching the biggest success, 91-56. In the A Section, third- placed Bury Snooker D entertained second-placed Buchanans A knowing the losers’ chance of winning the title would take a serious hit.
The first two frames were split but then Buchanans rattled off the next three to take unassailable lead as before finishing 7-2 victors for a share of top spot. Joining them at the summit were Tottington D who were away to Bury Snooker B. Tottington were up against it early on as Tony Baker won the opening frame 117-16, including an excellent break of 58. However, Tottington showed resilience to take four of the remaining frames to level at 4-4.
Elton Lib B returned to form to secure a 6-2 win at home to Salisbury, Frank Molinuex having an excellent frame to win 83-36. The result moved Elton into a share of third place.
Huntley A enjoyed the trip to Fishpool coming out 8-1 winners. Fishpool, can consider themselves unlucky as many of the frames were close and the aggregate was only secured by 11 chalks. Elton Lib A won 7-2 at Whitefield Snooker B, which gave the visitors a cushion above the foot of the table while Whitefield need a big win in their last game to avoid the bottom rung. In the B Section there is a late card so final standings are not complete. However, Radcliffe Central C have confirmed second place to Elton Lib C after beating Elton Lib D 7-2 with Danny Morris having a good 89-41 win. Huntley C found Bury Snooker C too good as Bury came out winners 7-2. Matt Heaton got Bury off to a good start with an opening- frame 99-55 win.
Buchanans B had a great win 7-1 at home to Stanley with Alan Rothwell winning his frame 80-21.
Champions Elton Lib C were beaten 6-2 in the final game of the season by Radcliffe Central D in a close match in which Radcliffe’s Duncan Stone compiled a 32 break on his way to taking his frame and helping Radcliffe to victory.
