ELTON Liberal C all but secured the B Section title with a 4-4 draw at Huntley C.
The result leaves them 17 points ahead of their nearest challengers with only 17 points available.
But the night itself belonged to Huntley’s Paul Anderson who knocked in a cracking 66 break on his way to winning his frame, 131-42.
Second-place Radcliffe Central C suffered a setback as Bury Snooker C triumphed 6-2 with Mark Burns enjoying a superb 116-56 victory. Elton Lib D are third after a 7-1 win at home to Whitefield A. Elton took five frames, the best of the bunch being Mark Routledge’s 83-31 win. In the other two games in the B Section, Radcliffe Central D beat Buchanans B 6-2 while Seedfeld A took a close match at Stanley, 6-3.
Radcliffe Central B continue their march towards the C Section title by beating Bury Bridge 6-2, but they were pushed all the way. All the frames were closely fought with Radcliffe securing the aggregate by 20 chalks.
Fellow title chasers Tottington B had a similarly tense match against Walshaw with Mick Middleton getting Tottington off to a great start with an 81-36 success, but Paul Taylor’s 100-59 win was enough to secure a 5-3 victory for Walshaw. Radcliffe St Mary’s are also in contention after securing a 4-4 result at Walmersley Conservatives.Walmersley’s Dave Morley followed up the previious week’s excellent performance with another good win, 105-31.
St Mary’s fought back to win the last three frames and earn a draw. Tottington A remain on the fringes of the title race after winning 6-2 at home to Huntley B. Rob Capron’s fine form continued with a 81-25 victory.
In A Section, Buchanans A took over at the top of the table with a 6-2 win at home to Elton Liberals A. Craig Brennan enjoyed the biggest win of the night, 64-19. The chasing pack will fancy their chances of returning to the top as Buchanans have a week off next week.
Bury Snooker D are one of the chasing pack and they beat hosts Huntley A 6-3, with Dale Jones and Sal Amin both securing big frame wins. Tottington D remain second despite losing to Fishpool 6-3.
Fishpool’s Sam Thompson produced a great 87-14 frame win as his side attempt to climb the table.
Elton Liberals B lost further ground on the leaders as Bury Snooker B had a fine win at Elton, 7-2, with Paul Jones returning to form with an excellent 101-42 success.
Bottom club, Whitefield Snooker B, continued their recent run, making it four wins in five, as they beat Radcliffe Central A 6-2 to move closer to the rest of the league.
