BURY Snooker D won a very close match at Fishpool in the Arthur Dykes Knockout.
They had a lead of 26 going into the last frame after wins from Dale Jones and Ged Young, but Dave Kay won the last frame 74-53 for Fishpool, falling just five chalks short.
Sal Amin held his nerve by potting the final black to see the snooker club into the next round. Warren Davis got hosts Radcliffe Central D off to a flying start with an 84-43 win which included a break of 27 against Seedfield A, who then won the next two frames. Andy Rogers won the match for the home team when he potted the pink to gave them victory by 20 points.
Seedfield B won by 13 chalks at Huntley B thanks to John Bly, who sank the final black. Cup-holders Radcliffe Central A enjoyed their trip to Bury Snooker B, winning the match 214-174, mainly due to captain Paul Bennett’s 74-31 win in the third frame. Salisbury Con entertained A Section leaders Tottington D and they won the match 228-205, with Mick Burke winning the second frame 82-26.
Paul Christie’s fine 81-36 win in the third frame proved enough for Tottington A to progress into the next round at the expense of Walmersley Con.
Whitefield Snooker B progressed into the quarter-finals of the John Spencer competition when they proved too strong against their A team.
Zia Aslam won the fourth frame 73-40 which gave them a 3-1 victory.
Both Radcliffe Central Snooker B and C teams had good wins.
The B team overcame Elton Lib D, Chris Nicholson winning the final frame for the snooker club. The C team entertained Walshaw and they looked likely to be going out of the competition when they lost the opening two frames after good wins from Paul Davis and Paul Taylor.
Walshaw were on the verge of victory when Mick Zurkan potted the pink in the third frame, only to see the cue ball go in off. Alan Wardle then potted the pink and black which prolonged the match.
Danny Morris then had an easy win in the fourth frame.
Pete Rathor then won the match for the Radcliffe C when he sunk the pink ball in the deciding frame. Bury Snooker C won another close game against Tottington B, captain Tony Burns winning the final frame 59-49.
The only match played in the Jim Brooks Pairs saw Bury Snooker D get the better of Elton Lib C.
Sal Amin and Mark Turner won the last frame by 32 points, which was enough to see the snooker club into the next round with a 164-143 victory.
