BURY Snooker D looked like they were heading out of this year’s John Spencer Shield when they found themselves 2-0 in their first-round home tie against Stanley Con after good wins from Dennis Lomas and Dave Bennett.

Ged Young started the fightback and Dale Jones levelled the match, leaving captain Sal Amin the chance to snatch a victory for the Snooker Club with a 63-55 win.

Another tight game saw Elton Lib D win 3-2 at Bury Snooker B. Paul Jones won 78-38, including a break of 38, but Phil Wolfenden saw Elton home with a 52-31 win in the last frame. Radcliffe Central B and C teams had the Eckersleys to thank for gaining wins against Radcliffe Central D and Fishpool.

Andy found himself 26 behind on the yellow but managed to pot the last six balls helping the B team gain a 3-1 victory. Les scraped home on the pink in the final frame after Ashley Spencer had set up a deciding frame by winning on the black.

Sam Thompson had made a break of 27 in the second frame in his 80-25 win. Another derby match took place at Tottington were the B team won two black-ball matches and captain Pete Woroniak won the fifth frame 77-19, leaving the A team thinking what might have been if they had enjoyed a bit more luck. Whitefield A won the last two games against Elton Lib A, Shaun Luff and Grant Nuttall seeing the snooker club home.

Whitefield B made it a double for the snooker club with an easy 3-0 win over Seedfield B after Matt Green won the first frame 84-38. Walshaw were lucky to progress into round two when they played at Seedfield A. Sean Hodgkinson potted the final black only to see the white hit the jaw of the middle pocket and then shoot over and go in the opposite pocket.

Tottington D won 3-0 when they entertained Bury Bridge with Ken Parkinson Pairs winners Oliver Barlow and Ian Brearley again recording victories.

Alan Brooks made a break of 45 in the first frame which helped Elton Lib C gain a 3-0 win at Whitefield Bowling Club.

Buchanans A beat Radcliffe Central A 3-1 but Buchanans B were beaten 3-2 by Huntley A. Walmersley Con won 3-0 at Huntley B and Salisbury Con got the better of Huntley C 3-1. No scores were put down for the last two matches.
