BURY’S Junior interleague side avenged their defeat to their Bolton rivals when they clashed at Elton Vale Sports Club in the return fixture on Friday.
The local girls emerged 174-146 winners thanks largely to a top score of 26 from Natalie Jennings in the first innings.
After a difficult opening to their innings, Jennings helped in the recovery of Bury’s score to 103.
Bolton then got off to a flying start, scoring 18 points from 11 balls, losing just one batter at first base. However, Bury dimsissed a further two batters, keeping Bolton down to just eight on their next run through.
Some excellent catching and backstopping saw the remaining batters score just 22 more pointts, which, combined with bad balls and penalties, left the visitors with an innings total of 57, 46 points in arrears.
Bolton followed on, and Bury instantly dismissed two batters at first base. And, after a mini collapse it looked like the hosts may win by an innings.
But some tanacious restistance from several visiting batters meant Bury went in again, needing just 44 to seal victory.
After a few early scares Bury went on to score an innings total of 71 to cap a comfortable win.
On Friday it is the turn of the Intermediates to do battle in their return interleague game, again at Elton Vale, starting at 7pm.
