RADCLIFFE AC's Shaun Boult battled tough weather conditions on Sunday competing in the Montane Trail Marathon at Rivington.
In wet and windy weather Shaun finished in a creditable 4.51.41, placing him 63rd out of 182 runners.
Andy Wheeler and Jo Stevens ran the Montante 10k with Wheeler clocking in 1.11.15 and Stevens 1.14.11. The races took in landmarks such as Great Hill, Rivington Pike and Darwen Tower; covering a variety of terrain with some serious climbs.
There was a great turnout when 10 members ran the eight miles plus Through The Villages road race at Wheelton, Chorley. Over some hilly terrain Wayne Jennings was first home for Radcliffe in 1.02.42 and 87th out of 286 runners. Steve Hamer (V55) had a good run in 1.05.36, followed closely by fellow vet-55 George Critchley in 1.05.42. Mauro Rotondi (V40) clocked 1.08.17 and there was only a second between Kath Davies, third vet-50 in the event with 1.10.11 and vet-60 John Kirkham. Amanda Hey (V50) clocked 1.10.21, Sheila Jones (V55) 1.12.22, Eileen Royle was first vet-65 in 1.13.24 and Suzanne Andrew (V40) ran 1.25.58. The race was part of the club’s “fast and furious” road race championship.
Hell Up North was the name of the race four members took on in Delamere Forest Park, Cheshire. And, as the name suggests, it was a trail race with a difference – with steep hills and water-filled areas to contend with on the 10 mile course. David Ward did a fine run in 1.57.21, coming in 62nd out of 2,101 runners. Paul Swyers ran 2.27.46 and was 385th, Phil Wolfenden was 782nd in 2.52.59 and brother Mark 2.53.11, coming 787th. Ward said it was a challenging event and not one to be underestimated.
In the six mile Shepherds Skyline Fell Race at Todmorden, Mark Murphy (V40), clocked 1.18.57 and fire officer Tony Holt – running for the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service – struggled to the finish in 1.22.17 after turning an ankle.
