RADCLIFFE AC’s Donna Cartwright followed up fourth place in the Red Reose Cross Country League event by leading the club in the tough UK Athletics British Fell and Hill Relay Championships in Wales the following day.
Cartwright was fourth out of 121 runners and first lady-35 at Chorley’s Astley Park on Saturday.
Eight women from Radcliffe raced with Catherine White (V40) second home followed by Kath Davies (V50), Amanda Hey (V50), Chemane Brier, Eileen Royle, who was second vet-65, Sinead Hays and Suzanne Andrew (V40). Among the 198 men running, Wayne Jennings was first home for Radcliffe followed by John Andrew (V40), Mark Wolfenden (V45), Ken Smith (V55) and Mauro Rotondi (V40).
On Sunday, a team of six took part in the 25th annual fell and hill relays in the mountains above Llanberis, the heart of Snowdonia National Park.
It began with a solo leg of 7.1km and 1,148 feet of climbing and Cartwright brought Radcliffe home in 46.39.
Dave Ward and Rob Andrew ran the longest second leg of 14.3k and 3,248 feet of climbing in 1.49.07secs.
The third leg tested navigational skills and George Critchley and Paul Swyers finished in 2.33.33.
Mark Cartwright completed the final solo leg of 8.4km and 2,000 feet of climbing in 108.14. The team finished 74th. Shaun Boult and Andy Wheeler battled the horrendous conditions in the Ennerdale 50k Trail Race.
Boult completed two circuits of a 25k route in a fine time of just over six hours. Wheeler eventually pulled out.
