CYCLE SPEEDWAY: BURY Pedalsport's second team ended their outdoor season in fine style on Sunday when they won the Midland/North Combination League Play-offs at Stoke.

The Midland section champions, Wednesfield Aces from Wolverhampton, offered stern opposition but the northern section champions - who lost their unbeaten record in unfortunate circumstances last weekend - picked themselves up tremendously after dropping the first heat 6-4 from inside starts.

After equalising in the second heat, the teams were virtually locked together until Bury edged ahead in the tenth of the 12 heats.

Skipper Chris Parish was inspirational with an unbeaten four rides, including shepherding his partner home twice for maximum race wins.

Chris scored 14 plus two bonus points to top the Bury scores with Michael Hewitson adding a maximum 12 points from three wins.

Other scores were Chris Dyson 11 plus one, Leo Brindley 10, Ashley Simpson seven, Alex Collins seven, and William Harrison one.

A final score of 62-56 put the young team on a massive high.

For the indoor racing season, Bury will be looking to retain the British U19 Team Championship to make it three wins in a row.

The indoor races are at Fit City Broughton on Saturday, December 2 and Sunday, December 3.

All the junior events, both team and individual, are on Saturday, December 2. The veterans and open races are on the Sunday.

All interested parties should note the following dates and times for practice sessions at Pendlebury Sports Centre: Sunday, October 29 2pm-3.30pm; Sunday, November 5 2pm-3.30pm; Saturday, November 11 5pm-7pm; Sunday, November 19 2pm-3.30pm; Saturday, November 25 5pm-7pm.
