BURY GSOB came back from two goals down to progress to the last 32 of the LFA Amateur Cup against a physical Rhoden Inn side from the Blackburn Combination.

Bury GSOB started well and created two good chances early on without scoring.

Rhoden Inn got into the game and would have taken the lead after 25 minutes but for Chris Graham, the Bury keeper, blocking a close range shot Bury GSOB found themselves 2-0 down after being hit with two goals in five minutes, and at this stage of the match were under severe pressure.

Rhoden Inn could have gone three up but their centre forward failed to hit the target with only the keeper to beat.

Two minutes into extra time of the first half, Bury grabbed a vital goal when Andy Myers hit a free kick from 25 yards which the keeper could only parry, then Paul Duckworth followed up and hit the ball into the roof of the net from an acute angle.

With only seconds of the first half left, a Spencer Woods pass found Ashley Leith in space in the penalty area and Leith equalised with a fine left foot shot.

Rhoden Inn could not recover from this point and were soon under pressure in the second half. Another foul on Alex Lundy led to another free kick outside the area and from the resulting cross, man-of-the-match Paul Duckworth headed the home side into the lead.

Spencer Woods made it 4-2 with a fine individual goal. He out-paced the last defender before firing the ball past the advancing keeper.

Chris Graham made a good save low to his right hand side with 10 minutes to go to thwart any possibility of a comeback from the Blackburn Combination team.

Bury GSOB return to league football this Saturday, away to Little Lever SC.
