BURY Comets’ trip to Leicester for the British Team Championship quarter-final was always going to be tough but with three regular first teamers missing the task to progress to the semi-finals became impossible.

The Monarchs, with a pedigree second to none as multi-winners of the sport’s longest running and greatest team competition, took charge of the proceedings right from the start to win 117-59.

After the 18 heats, Chris Parish was Bury’s only heat winner and topped the scores with 13 points.

Young Will Owens added another good score with 10 points, Neil Howarth nine, Paul Dyson eight, Luke Jamson seven, Ryan Livesey five, Chris Dyson four, and James Elston three.

The fifth round of the Transpenine Grand Prix for all ages and categories takes places at Heckmondwike on Sunday with a 2pm start.

The club’s Thursday evening recruitment and training sessions continue from 5.30pm at the Goshen sports centre track. All newcomers welcome. Bikes, equipment and tuition will be given free of charge. There is no need to book, participants should just turn up.
