Walmer men’s A team were emphatic winners in their clash with Bradshaw TC in Division Two of the Bolton Sports Federation Tennis League.

Jay Hardy and Mike Davies lost just one game in their three sets and Ryan Tierney and Rhys Taylor also scored heavily with 6-1 6-1 6-2 sets.

Adam Gooddy and Paul Biggins won their sets by 6-4 6-1 6-0 to complete Walmer’s clean sweep, which kept them unbeaten on the top of the table.

It was also vital for Walmer men’s B to win to keep up the pressure at the top of Division Four.

They played Eagley A at home and were led to an early lead by Rick Morley and Steve Routledge, who won their sets by 6-2, 6-2, 6-1. Andy Parton and Raj Rahman won sets by 6-3 6-4 and lost one 6-0.

Dave Gerrard and Stew Hardy also won two sets for Walmer to win by a convincing 7-2 margin.

Walmer C were up against Eagley B away in a match between the top two in Division Six. Julian Nuttall and Nico Renzuli won two sets but Stu Donaldson and John Biggins and the young pairing of Joe Donaldson and Luke Blackburn were unable to get a win as Walmer tumbled to a 7-2 defeat. In Division Two of the Mixed League, Walmer A met Lostock C at Mosley Avenue and took an early grip on the match, which they never released.

There were wins for Paul Biggins and Hattie Morley, 6-5, Adam Gooddy and Diane Hardman, 6-4, and Rick Morley and Gail Blackburn and Mike Davies and Lisa Morley both won 6-3. In the ladies section, Blackburn and Lisa Morley won 6-3 6-2 and these scores were repeated by Hardman and Hattie Morley.

For the men, Biggins and Gooddy won 6-1 6-3 while Morley and Davies scored 6-1 3-6 which saw Walmer win by 69-36.

Walmer B visited David Lloyd C but left without the points despite some good results in the gents’ section.
