WHILE most of Bury's athletes were braving the horrendous weather last weekend to take part in the International Youth Sports Festival, one athlete showed his class on a larger stage.

Jack Brown represented Greater Manchester Schools in the Mason Trophy at Stoke, an event in which Greater Manchester competes against seven other counties from across the Midlands and North of England.

Brown’s hard work in training to refine his hurdling technique paid off as he finished in an excellent fourth place with a new personal best of 4mins 53.9secs. He will now hope that the selectors view his performance favourably and select him to represent Greater Manchester at the English Schools’ Championships next month. Bury’s seniors are in action on Sunday in a Northern League fixture at Carlisle.

Bury is also hosting two young athlete mini-league fixtures for Under-9s, U11s and U13s athletes on Wednesday, July 11 and August 8. More information can be found on the Club’s website at www.buryac.co.uk.
