RADCLIFFE AC’s George Critchley certainly made it a family affair when he, his wife, daughter and sister-in-law ran Trails Marathon Wales this weekend.

The event featured a full and a half-marathon in the tough Coed y Brenin forest in the Snowdonia National Park.

Critchley’s wife, Carole, went for the full marathon, covering well over 3,000 ft of climbing on the forest trails and recorded a fine time of 5hrs 31mins to finish second in the vet-50 age group.

Critchley (V50) and his daughter, Helen finished, the half-marathon together, clocking 2:39:36, and were followed home by sister-in-law Clare.

In the Warrington 10k on a flat course on a warm night on Thursday, Tony Holt clocked 42:26 to finish third among the V50s and Rachel Molloy ran 1:01:16.

Husband and wife Donna and Mark Cartwright (V45) joined 128 finishers in Aggie’s Staircase Fell Race at Darwen on Thursday with Donna covering the four miles and more than 1,000 ft of climbing in 36:45 and Mark clocking 40:11.

Andy Wheeler took on the Sotos 10k at Fleetwood and battled against the wind on a flat course to clock 50.23 and get himself a fluorescent green T-shirt.

The club is now well under way with plans for its Three Day Challenge event on July 12, 13 and 14. Now in its third year, the challenge begins on Thursday evening with the 5.5 Bull Hill Fell Race from Hawkshaw out on to the Holcombe moorland.

The following evening there is a Summer Cross Country from the local Giant Seat Scout Camp, and Saturday sees the final event, the Woodcock’s Five Mile Multi-Terrain Race.

Headquarters for the last race will be Radcliffe Cricket Club, where the presentation will take place afterwards. Runners can enter all three events or any event separately. Rob Jackson from Horwich, who has been the overall male winner for the past two years, is among the entrants. Runners can visit the club website, www.radcliffeac.org.uk for details.
