TWO separate Grand Prix events dominated the racing this week either side of the washed out Go-Ride events, organised to coincide with the passing of the Olympic torch through Bury.

The midweek Manchester League at Goshen on Wednesday provided a superb night of racing. Three new recruits from the training sessions contested the Under-10s for Bury with Louis Turner proving the best of the trio with thee second-placed finishes and a third for 11 points.

Arshya Zeergehi scored six and James Highland five. Bury dominated the U13s, Adam Watson topping the group with 16 points, James Elston runner-up with 14, Adam Turnbull third with 12, Daniel Taylor 10, Adam Taylor eight and Becky Mason four.

In the U16s, Ryan Livesey scored six and Will Owens six in the U19s. The seniors rounded the night off with Chris Parish in joint-top spot on 15 points, Joe Allen scored 12, Will Owens 12, Adam Watson 10, Laura Watson nine and John Whiting eight.

Sunday’s third round of the Northern Fours and the Juniors League at Astley and Tyldesley was a strange affair. The table-topping Comets, pushing for a fourth successive Fours title, struggled to even track a team due to numerous circumstances.

Secondary licence rider Mikey Hewitson, commuting from his Edinburgh home, topped the Bury scoring with 15 points, Chris Parish 14, 12-year-old mini-superstar James Elston scored an incredible 12 points, 54-year-old Steve Mann five points and 49-year-old Joe Holleren got two. It all added up to a thrilling match with the Comets beating Stockport 51-50.

Earlier in the Junior League, newcomer Louis Turner was again impressive with 10 points in the U10s and tiny Bradley Sullivan enjoyed his first match with four points.

Elston secured an immaculate 16 point maximum in the U13s, Daniel Taylor 14, Adam Turnbull 10, Adam Taylor nine, and Becky Mason eight.

U16s youngster Ryan Livesey scored 15 and, in a combined U19s and combination group, Will Owens scored 15, Joe Holleren 16 in the combination and Steve Mann 14.

The Comets travel to Leicester on Sunday for their hard-earned British team quarter-final match in an attempt to reach their first ever semi-final.
