BURY Broncos have launched their under-15s and u13s teams.
They are the first in their age groups to represent the town for more than a decade.
The club, based at Philips High School in Whitefield, has had the support of Swinton Lions and the Bury Council’s rugby league development staff, and, as a result, mre than 30 youngsters have begun training.
They played the first of a two-game “origin” series against a similar group at East Lancashire at the weekend.
The hosts won 32-12, as Alex Mitchell (Bury Church of England) emerged as Broncos’ man of the match.
The u15s game was a much tighter affair before East Lancashire scored two late tries to edge it 36-28.
Broncos’ man of the match was Joe Kelly (Castlebrook).
The return leg of the series will take place on Saturday, July 7 at Philips High. The new teams will run alongside the two open age teams and the already established u11s and u9s teams.
Broncos are looking to recruit new volunteers and players across all their age groups.
Anyone interested should contact club chairman Mike Palin on 07834 686374, email contact@burybroncos.co.uk or just turn up on July 7.
