RADCLIFFE AC’s Donna Cartwright notched up two women’s second places, one at the Holcombe Two Towers Fell Race and the other at the Chorley Great Hill Fell Race.

At Holcombe she covered the four miles and 1,300 ft of climbing in 43mins 40secs and took her runners-up slot at Chorley running five miles and 1, 600 ft of climbing in 46:43.

She was one of seven club-mates to run the Holcombe race and was followed home by husband Mark (V45) in 45:46, George Critchley (V50) in 47:39, John Kirkham (V60) in 50:38secs, Berin Jones (V40) in 53:27secs, Andy Wheeler (V55) in 62:33 and Tom West (V70) in 71:5.

There was a good turnout on Wednesday night for the Three Sisters Country Park 5k Race with Stu Sharp finishing in a fine 19th position out of 175 runners in 18:15. Next home was Rob Shiels in 39th position in 18:55. Rob Andrew was 64th in 20:10.

Tony Holt (V50) was 79th in 20:59, Steve Hamer (V50) 120th in 23:08, Mark Emmett (V50) 128th in 23:16 and Ken Smith (V55) finished in 23:22. Sheila Jones was second vet 55 in 24:43, Eileen Royle first vet-60 in 25:30, Jim Rhodes second vet 70 in 28:02 and Rebecca Chaplin ran 30: 32.

Rhodes, who is 73, turned the clock back when he ran a personal best of 27mins 18secs in the British Masters 5k at Horwich and was 10th vet 70 in the championships.

John Scarlett and Michael Shroot took on the Freckleton Half Marathon on the Fylde Coast on Sunday. Scarlett clocked a creditable 1hr 44mins 11secs and Shroot running 1:52:24.

Mark Murphy was the only club member to run the Two Lads Fell Race at Horwich. He clocked 53:15 on a course of just over five miles with 900 ft of climbing.
