WALMER A’s mixed team exited Bolton Tennis League’s Cecil Cup at the hands of visitors Markland Hill C who made the most of their 37.5- game handicap advantage.

Home players Adam Goodie and Dianne Hardman set the tone with a 6-1 win and Phil Mansfield and Hattie Morley won 6-3.

The warning was there, however, when Jay Hardy and Lisa Morley, and Rick Morley and Gail Blackburn lost their sets 6-3. Walmer then scored well with Blackburn and Lisa Morleywinning 6-2 6-2, and Hardman and Hattie Morley 6-5 6-1. Hardy and Goodie won 6-2 6-1 and Morley and Mansfield scored 6-0 4-6 to see Walmer reach a total of 64 games, but with the advantage of their handicap, the visitors’ total of 35 games was enough for them to progress to the next round.

In their league fixture at home to Bradshaw A, Walmer A failed to get back into winning form after a bad start in the mixed section, where only Mansfield and Lisa Morley won a set, 6-5.

It was close in the ladies section with 6-4 2-6 sets from Lisa and Gail Blackurn and wins from Dianne Hardman and Hattie Morley . Jay Hardy and Adam Goodie won by 6-4 6-1, but after a 6-5 win by Morley and Mansfield and with the last set to play, it was not possible for Walmer to overtake their visitors’ total.
