SCOTT Quigg’s trainer Joe Gallagher has called on the Bury boxer’s promoter, Ricky Hatton, to arrange him a last-minute bout on the undercard of Amir Khan’s fight with Danny Garcia in Las Vegas on July 14.

Gallagher, who trains Quigg out of Khan’s Gloves gym in Bolton, is eager to make sure that all of the preparation the 23-year-old boxer put into Saturday’s aborted fight with Rendall Munroe is not wasted.

The WBA interim super-bantamweight title fight at Manchester Velodrome was declared a technical draw after 43 seconds of the third round when an accidental clash of heads opened up a deep cut over Munroe’s right eye.

The 32-year-old Leicester southpaw had to have nine stitches in the wound and will not be able to resume sparring for at least two months, meaning that any possible re-match will not take place until November at the earliest.

“Ricky Hatton’s promotions company have a very good relationship with Amir Khan’s promoters and Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya, who is putting on the Khan fight in Las Vegas, so there are avenues to explore there,” said Gallagher.

“It would be great if there was an opportunity to fight in America and introduce him to American fight fans – whether it was an eight-rounder, a 10-rounder or for the WBA belt interim, I’m not that fussed.

“Scott is fit and ready to go and I’m just thinking outside the box because I want that kid a fight.

“I don’t want him hanging around all summer. I just want him to get out there again before coming back for the re-match with Rendall.”
