BURY Souths were beaten 12-6 at Westmorland despite an exceptional performance from Joan Langridge, who won three of her singles games.

Pam Hunter and Sheila Bruckshaw won one each and debutant Derek Deadman was unfortunate not to score a point. Both sides won a doubles game.

Meanwhile, Bury Peelers lost 4-3 to visitors Pendle as Geoff Young and Margaret Anderton lost the doubles game on the golden hoop finish. Although Barbara Young won her game, Paul Kenworthy lost before returning in the afternoon to win after reducing his partner to one ball.

Barbara and Geoff Young both lost and Anderton won, despite her opponent having a fence of bisques.

Meanwhile, Bury members Paul Rigge and Matt Holmes represented Lancashire as part of a six-player squad at the four-day County Championships in Brighton. Lancashire finished middle of Division One but beat local rivals Cheshire 2-1 in the last match to finish above them in the table.

Bury visited Bowdon for a short lawn match on Sunday with the hosts winning 10-6. Tony Phillips and Richard Harvey won two games each and Maureen Whittle and Margaret Anderton won one.
