Bury Clarion’s Paul Whatmough won the club track championships at Manchester Velodrome.

Meanwhile, team-mate Neil Kirby, achieved fourth place in the 20-lap scratch race and third in the 25-lap points race while riding in group B.

Kirby was back in action again later along with Nick Hall, John Yates and Phil Ball for the team pursuit, where the foursome finished the 3k race in 4mins 5secs placing them fourth.

Andy Horner found top gear in his time trial, with a hat trick of events under his belt, starting with the VTTA 25-mile TT near Garstang, where the Bury racer crossed the line in 10th in 1hr 5mins. Next was the Preston Wheeler 25 near Lancaster, where a strong wind pushed his time down slightly when he finished with 1:34. His final event was Lancaster CC’s 10-miler at Levens in Cumbria, where Horner made a satisfying 22:39.

Martin Lee has been racing far and wide over the last few weeks. In mid-Shropshire Wheeler’s 25-mile TT he posted 1:10:13, while at Otley CC’s 25-mile event Lee saw his time massively improve, with 1:05:47. Lastly in Stockton Wheeler’s 50-mile TT, Lee finished in 2:24:13.

Bob Duckworth finished third in the 26-mile The Great Manchester Cycle Ride last week in a time of 1:23.
