BURY Comets youngster James Elston claimed the plaudits with a brilliant two days of racing which produced 20 points maximum scores to win the Northern Under-13s Individual Championship at Heckmondwicke.

Fellow Comets Daniel Taylor, with points 15, and Adam Turnbull with 14, both finished high up the final table but missed out on the silverware.

Paul Dyson was third in the veterans’ category on 14 points, behind Stockport’s Terry Norman and home rider Darren Kent.

Steve Mann scored 11 points. Other Bury riders involved were Ryan Livesey who scored 10 in the u16s, Will Owens, 13 in the u19s, and Joe Allen, nine in the open age.

The previous day at Bury, Elston also rode unbeaten to top the Northern Qualifiers in the British Youth and Junior league u12s category with club-mate Turnbull on his heels.

Elston scored a maximum 16 points with Turnball on 14 in the qualifying heats and they took first and second places in the A final.

Daniel Taylor scored 10 flr the u14s and won the B final. Ryan Livesey scored seven in a tough u16s contest, but won the B final. Becky Mason scored four points in the girls’ event and was fourth in the B final.

Saturday’s scheduled Ken Graham Memorial Trophy event has had to be postponed due to unexpected circumstances and will now take place on October 6.

Bury aim to track their strongest possible line-up for the visit of Edinburgh Falcons for the British Team Championship match on Sunday with a place in the quarter-finals at stake.

A junior challenge match will follow the main event at Goshen Cycle Speedway Track on Sunday. The action starts at 2pm.
