PILSWORTH Fisheries (Heywood) day ticket continues to fish well with fine catches all week.

The top lodge is the match venue and details are available from water bailiff Eric Taylor on arrival.

The middle lodge yielded the biggest fish in the area – a 37lb mirror carp. There is an open match each Sunday – draw pegs at 10am fish till 4pm.

Results: Sunday: 1 Tony Heslop 40lb, 2 John Allen 17lb, 3 Kevin Crowshaw 16lbs, 4 Fred Prudham 15.12oz , 5 Roy Gough 15.8oz.

Gigg Lane or Maceys (Bury) day ticket: The top lodge has been fishing a little better with good catches while the bottom lodge has slowed down a little.

Water bailiff Bob Cornick thinks some of the carp may be spawning. There is a grand slam tournament every Tuesday evening. Entry costs £12 with pegs drawn at 5pm. The price includes a bait peg and a per centage to prize. Last Tuesday’s leg was won by (Mick Busby 15lb).

Unsworth (Unsworth Angling Club) day ticket: Either day ticket or membership is available for £20 a year from water bailiff Dave Morris. The fishing has been good with some large bream and carp.

River Irwell (Tottington up to Ramsbottom): This is an ideal venue for river fishing. The Irwell fishes quite well but can be challenging. Local anglers should be aware of hogweed on the banks which can cause a burn-like effect on physical contact. Sightings should be reported to Bury Council who have apparently got the matter under review.

Square Lodge (Tottington): Fishing well but changes from day-to-day on fishing styles. It is best go armed with various baits to adapt.

Starmount Lodge (Radclffe): Although this is quite a good venue, carp fishing is running a bit slow, but reasonable catches can be made on most other fish.

Radcliffe Angling Club forthcoming matches: June 24 – N Mallalien Cup Charity, Farm Pond; July 1 – Centenary Cup, Fir Tree-Nookey Hollow Radcliffe Angling Trust Junior Coaching at Starmount Lodge (June 21 to 28): Every young person can participate as equipment and bait are provided. Anyone under the age of 16 years on their first visit must bring a parent or guardian to sign the parental consent form.

The cost is £1 per session to cover costs. The money collected goes towards the end-of-season barbecue and presentation event. All coaches have been vetted by the Society and CRB checked. All areas of participation are roped off and only authorised personnel are allowed. A rod licence is not required. Sessions run from 6pm to 8.30pm.
