BURY boxer Scott Quigg believes his time has come to shine, promising to prove he is Britain’s number one super-bantamweight against Rendall Munroe on Saturday.

Quigg, pictured, takes on Munroe at Manchester’s Velodrome for the vacant WBA interim title putting his unbeaten 24-fight record on the line against the Leicester southpaw in Hatton Promotions’ Road to Glory event.

And the 23-year-old from Bury says he is ready to add to his British title on home turf.

He says the training camp has been his best ever and he is ready to seize his chance and open the door to a future world title fight.

Quigg said: “It’s a chance to prove myself and training has gone well, perfect in fact. There is nothing more I could have done to get ready for this fight.

“At the minute, Rendall is the number one but I’ll prove on Saturday that I am by beating him.

“I’m confident of that. He’s achieved a lot and I’m under no illusions it will be a tough fight but I’m confident and ready. I believe it’s my time.”

Former world champion Ricky Hatton is promoting the bill and told the pre-fight press conference at Manchester’s Printworks Hard Rock Café he expects it to be the “fight of the year so far” as the top two ranked boxers in Britain at super-bantamweight go head-to-head.

Hatton said: “It’s going to be a barnstormer and anyone who has tickets won’t be disappointed.

“I went into promoting to put on fights the fans want to see and to get the number one and two ranked in Britain to go toe-to-toe is fantastic.

“It’s a great chance for both boxers to go on to bigger and better things in front of what is looking like a crowd of around 4,000.”

One-time binman Munroe has been sounding out close pal Jason Booth – the man beaten by Quigg last year on his way to clinching the British championship – ahead of Saturday’s bout.

And the 32-year-old who has a record of 24 wins from 26 fights with 10 knockouts, is just as confident as Quigg he can inflict a first defeat on the Bury man.

Munroe added: “I can’t wait to go; I wish it was tomorrow.

“I’ve been at the weight for the past four weeks and training has gone really well for me.

“I’m a believer that things happen for a reason and on Saturday, I’m going to prove myself.

“It’s my third fight as a fully-fledged professional and it’s a fantastic opportunity for me.

“I’ve proved I am one of the elite boxers at this level and will show it again on Saturday.”

A small number of tickets remain for the event and are available at www. ticketmas ter.co.uk.
