TWINS Livvy and Abby Barber have flown to Australia as part of the England team at the world indoor netball world championships.
The 23-year-old Holcombe Brook duo were hand-picked to go to the championships in Brisbane after attending a selection programme in London.
Former Woodhey High School and Holy Cross College pupils Livvy and Abby have been playing netball since they were nine-year-olds, but the indoor six-a-side game is more fast and furious than the traditional seven-a-side outdoor format.
Livvy, left, played wing-attack for Super League side Northern Thunder when they were based at Castle Leisure Centre, Bury.
But she believed her netball career might have come to a premature end when she fell out of favour with the club.
“I thought I was finished with netball, but we went down to London and got selected and we are very excited about the trip,” she said before flying Down Under to compete in the all-women’s team.
Abby, meanwhile, has been selected to play a game for the mixed team.
Games are played in high-tension netted courts so the ball never goes out of play, creating a faster-paced spectacle.
