HAWKSHAW B endured a disappointing start to their campaign in Division Three of the Bolton Sports Federation men’s tennis league, drawing at newly promoted Lostock C.
The home side went into the match under strength, with a number of players promoted to teams in higher divisions, but Hawkshaw failed to press home their advantage and the Lostock pairing of Jamahl Henry and Rob Taylor ended as the only unbeaten players.
Hawkshaw D fared better in Division Seven, with the newly promoted side beating Elton Vale B 7.5-1.5. The partnership of Steve Cross and David Hulme starred, winning all three of their sets for Hawkshaw.
Holcombe Brook’s C and D teams enjoyed differing fortunes. Young Ryan Costello slotted into an established C team to earn 1.5 sets against Bolton CC in Division Four. But he failed to inspire a victory, with the Holcombe Brook side losing their first match at this level 6-3. The D team edged a tight match at home to Barrow Bridge B in Division Seven, winning 5.5-3.5.
