FORMER Gigg Lane favourite Danny Swailes says he will put personal feelings aside to stop the Shakers in their tracks.

The 27-year-old defender spent nine years with Bury before moving on to Macclesfield at the height of the club's financial crisis two seasons ago.

He hasn't had a happy time in Cheshire so far, as the club lurched from the play-offs to successive seasons battling against relegation. But despite still looking at his time at Bury as the happiest of his career, Swailes is determined to halt the Shakers' run of form when the two clubs meet on Saturday.

"It is always the match that I look for first on the fixture list. I spent a long time with Bury, so I think a lot of the club.

"It's great to see the likes of Nicky Adams and David Buchanan come through and make it in the first team," he said. "They were just kids when I was there, but they have developed into really good players.

"I've been looking forward to the game for ages, but obviously I hope it goes the right way for us."

Macc have yet to register a win in 13 games this season, form which eventually accounted for manager Brian Horton's job.

But Swailes is at a loss to explain just why the Silkmen have struggled this season.

He said: "I haven't got the foggiest idea why the season has been so tough for us.

"We haven't been playing that badly. We still have the nucleus of the squad that made the play-offs but for some reason it hasn't worked out."
