BURY Athletic Club’s athletes were once again in top form when their club hosted the third round of the Cheshire League at their Market Street track.
Bury’s senior sprinters took the opportunity to demonstrate their class, taking victory in each of the four 100 metre races, the winners being Carlo Balsamo (11.7seconds), Nick Dodd (11.8s), Marvin Edwards (12.2s) and Tinashe Makunike (12.0s).
The squad, coached by Etta James, also romped to a convincing victory in the sprint relay in 46.2s.
The future looks bright for Bury’s sprinters, with the under-17s squad winning the relay in 51.4s and Ayo Yamah finishing third in the 200m (24.0s).
Nathan Milligan added a 200m B race victory in 25.0s to his first place in the 800m with 2:13.6minutes.
The senior athletes also demonstrated their versatility with Balsamo taking third in the shot putt, Kevin Stout second in the triple jump (11.77m) and seventh in the 800m (2:16.1m), and James Colbeck winning the B triple jump (11.30m).
Mark Shakeshaft was an outstanding winner of the 3,000m, easing away from the field in the final kilometre to win in 9:22.3m.
Benn Heywood was a convincing victor of the u15 boys 1,500m in 4:41.9m, also taking third in the 200m and fourth in the long jump.
In the u11s, James Coghlan was second in both the 75m and long jump. Ben Forrest finished first in his 75m heat and the javelin (19.15m) and third in the 600m, where he was narrowly edged out by George Yates.
Robbie Hayes was first in the B javelin (17.26m).
For the women, Sarah Lutkevitch and Lizzie Cheshire were winners in the long jump events (4.63m and 4.62m), Sarah adding a second in the 100m, although her time was bettered by Natalie Joseph who won her heat in 13.6s.
Katie Buckley finished second in the 1,500m, with Caitlin Healy and Katrina Conroy third and fourth.
For the u15s, Christie Cook was once again an easy winner in the 1,500m in 5:00.1m, with Antonia Kean and Liz Howard in fourth and fifth respectively.
Chelsey Lee excelled in the u13 girls’ javelin, finishing second with a throw of 7.77m.
U11s girl Teegan Brady was runner-up in the 75m (11.9s) and ran well for sixth in the 600m (2:06.0m).
On debut, there were strong performances from Ella Dunn Cassidy, second in the javelin (11.23m) and Jade Reynolds (third in the B javelin 5.22m).
Meanwhile, Radcliffe AC’s John Kirkham was back mixing it after a seven week lay-off when he took part in the Milford Duathlon in Derbyshire.
Vet 60 Kirkham finished the 2.5mile run, 12mile bike ride and another 2.5 mile run in 1hr 31:04.
