OLIVER Armstrong was the brightest star to shine for Bury AC in the third round of the Youth Athletes’ league at Stretford.
He won all three jump events in the Under-17s men’s category, including a 1.65m leap in the high jump.
He then won the long jump (5.15m) and triple jump (11.21m), edging out team-mate Matty Jones, whose performances of 5.03m and 10.72m in the latter two events won the B events. Jones later won the 1500m steeplechase in a personal best time of 5.41.8.
Other winners for Bury were Oliver Ratcliffe (4.59m) and Ben Heywood (3.97m) in the u15s long jump, Arran Entwistle with a personal best of 25.38m in the javelin in the same age group, Katie Buckley in the u17s women’s javelin (18.97m) and Nathan Milligan and Josh Taylor in the u17s men’s hammer.
Beth Rigby was second in the u13s high jump (1.15m) and Sam Brooks was runner-up in the long jump (3.93m). Valuable team points came from Chloe Fell (shot putt) with a personal best of 6.44m and Chelsey Lee who was third in the B long jump.
On the track, u17 Ayo Yamaha enjoyed convincing wins in the 100m (12.1) and 200m (25.1) before anchoring the sprint relay team to first place. Danny Sarfraz was first, second and third respectively in the B 200m, 400m and 800m.
Nathan Milligan ran a personal best of 55.7 to win the 400m, having been just edged out for victory in the 800m. Taylor finished second in the 1500m.
Among the u17s women, Katrina Conroy won the two hurdles events and was third in the 200m. Katie Buckley ran a personal best of 2.21.2 to win the 800m and then ran another personal best finishing third in the 300m.
Heywood was the pick of the u15s boys with victory in the 1500m and a personal best of 2.16.3 for second place in the 800m. Entwistle took first place in the B 800m, and Ratcliffe was second in the 200m to follow his third place in the shorter sprint.
Among the girls Christie Cook was a clear winner with another solo run in the 800m, and was third in the 200m. Eleanor Boyle ran 5.23.1 to finish third in the 1500m, Elizabeth Howard won the B race and Jenny Smalley took third in the 800m and sprint hurdles.
