UNSWORTH’S second team made Central Lancashire League history on Sunday by dismissing Oldham for just NINE runs in a sensational match.

On an amazing afternoon at The Pollards, the home side’s top eight batsman recorded ducks and the first run came in the 13th over. Of the nine runs Oldham managed to eek out, FIVE of them were extras.

The game was over quicker than a football match, with opening bowlers Mo Munowar (6-3) and Usman Mahmood (4-6) wreaking havoc.

Unsworth rearranged their batting order to give younger players a rare opportunity at the top of the order, and they managed to reach their target for the loss of two wickets.

Captain Andy Clarkson is still in disbelief at the ease of victory. He said: “Everyone knows that you try and bowl first at Oldham because they don’t have the best covers but we did not expect to roll them over for nine runs.

“We played them in the first game of the season and it was a close game, which we won, so we were surprised how it all panned out.

“They had a couple of young lads in their team, but only the same amount as the rest of the teams in the league field.

“A few of their lads were out to terrible shots and we took three amazing catches, ones that might not have stuck on another day.

“I have played in games where teams have been bowled out for 40 or 50 but never like this. The whole game was over inside 90 minutes and we still had time to get back to the club house to watch the Manchester United v Chelsea match.

“It was our fourth victory of the season and, although I have not seen an updated table, I am hoping we will be in the top four.”
