WOODBANK professional Steve Dearden believes his side can finish in the top six of the Lancashire County League.

Despite finishing in the bottom two last season and making a poor start to this campaign, Dearden insists Woodbank can still come good.

The all-rounder said: “I started off thinking we could challenge for the title but, hopefully, we’ll make the top six now.” Woodbank are currently second from bottom, having only won one of their four matches.

But Dearden is confident the season will pick up. The 43-year-old said: “We are struggling with bowlers. We have a left-hand spinner, Nick Kennedy, injured at the minute and I believe he will make a huge difference.”

Dearden is currently the club’s top batsman and bowler, but insists he does not set himself personal goals. He added: “I just go out and play cricket, I don’t set myself targets, otherwise you can come tumbling down.”
