BURY Comets consolidated their attempts to retain the Northern Fours League championship, which they have won for the last two years, with a good performance in the second round at Hull last Sunday to remain in top spot.
They remained in contention throughout the 16 heats, although Hull won the day with 46 points, Bury were second on 42, ahead of rivals Stockport and Heckmondwike.
Bury scorers: Chris Parish 13, Neil Howarth 13, Luke Jamson 10, Joe Holleren 3, James Elston 3.
In the Northern Junior League, James Elston was in good form in the under-13s with 13 points from three seconds and a win in the Combination section. Joe Holleren scored nine.
The previous day at Crookson Park, Sheffield, Elston retained top spot in the British Youth and Junior League U12s with an unbeaten 16 points from four qualifying rides and took second place in the A final behind Adam Watson who, like his sister Laura, doubles up his racing for Sheffield and Bury.
Elston and Watson have won one A final each after two rounds with the former ahead on race points.
In the first midweek Manchester League GP at Astley and Tyldesley, Elston scored 10 points in the u13s, but rode unbeaten for 16 points maximum at Heckmond Wike in the combined u10s and u12s first round in the new Trans Pennine GP.
Adam Watson scored 10 points in u13s at A&T while Jamie Chester, also moving up in the age groups this year, scored 11 points and eight in West Yorkshire.
Laura Watson and Vicky Brown scored seven and five points in the u19s and veteran Joe Holleren took nine points in the seniors at A&T. Bury Comets are away at Heckmond Wike in the Northern League on Sunday at 2pm.
