BURY are in dreamland tonight after beating Chesterfield 3-2 to secure promotion to League One.
Goals from Tom Lees, David Worrall and Ryan Lowe saw off the spirited Spireites and ensured a first promotion in 14 years.
Caretaker manager Richie Barker, who has led the team to six successive victories since Alan Knill departed for Scunthorpe, was delighted at the final whistle and heaped all the praise on his players.
“It feels amazing to be promoted and every one of the players deserve it because they have been absolutely brilliant all season,” said Barker.
“I retired from playing two years ago and I thought that would be the last time my name would be heard in football but to come back and help Bury do this is brilliant.
“We have some young players in this squad but they have taken it all in their stride and I am pleased they finished the job.”
