SCOTT Quigg was rocked by a training injury that forced him to withdraw from his latest fight.
The Bury super-bantamweight, who has won all 21 of his professional contests, was due to line up on the undercard of Amir Khan’s fight against Paul McCloskey at the MEN Arena last Saturday.
But, for the first time in his career, injury struck and he was forced to sit on the sidelines.
“I went over on my ankle in the gym and then aggravated it on a run up Holcombe Hill,” said Quigg, pictured.
“I couldn’t walk on it so I couldn’t keep my fitness up and I had no option other than to pull out.
“I know injuries are part and parcel of being a professional sportsman but it did hit me hard. Every time I saw something on the television about the Amir Khan fight it knocked me for six because I saw it as my big chance to show people in the UK and America what I can do.
“I am gutted about it all really but there will be other opportunities coming up soon.”
One of those could be a headline show at the Castle Leisure Centre in Bury on July 9.
And it is that carrot that is driving Quigg on to ensure he bounces back stronger for his setback.
“I will be defending my WBA Inter-Continental belt so that is something to look forward to,” said Quigg.
“By the time that fight comes around it will have been seven months since my last one so I will be itching to put on a good show.”
